Frequently Asked Questions

Compiled from the questions we get most often via support email and pre-purchase inquiries. If you don’t see your question here, email support@fasterthemes.com.

About the theme

Yes. The Legal WordPress Theme itself is free and GPL-licensed. You can use it on as many sites as you want, modify it, and even redistribute modified versions (under the same GPL terms).

The premium features — editorial skins, demo importer, dark mode, custom logo variants, mega-menu, schema.org markup, WOW Effects — live in the Legal Pro companion plugin, which is paid. The free theme is fully functional without it.

No. Legal Pro is a one-time purchase with lifetime updates. There’s no recurring billing.

Yes. One license activates Pro on unlimited sites you own.

No measurable impact. The plugin’s CSS is appended to the theme’s existing inline <style> block (no extra HTTP requests). The JavaScript is ~3KB inline. The license check runs once per day in the background and doesn’t affect page rendering.

For reference: a fully-loaded Lex & Co. demo with all WOW Effects active scores 95+ on PageSpeed Insights mobile and 99+ on desktop, when hosted on a basic shared hosting plan.

Customization

Can I add more than 6 practice tiles?

Not via the Customizer. The 6-tile limit was a deliberate design choice — boutique firms typically have 4–8 practice areas, and 6 fits the visual rhythm of the section. If you genuinely need more, override template-firm.php in a child theme. See Child Themes.

Can I have more than 4 counsel cards?

Same answer — 4 was a design choice, override via child theme if needed. For larger practices (10+ counsel), consider creating a separate “Counsel” page with its own grid template rather than expanding the home-page section.

Can I change the colors beyond the palette in the Customizer?

Yes. Use Custom CSS to override the CSS variables — see Adding Custom CSS. The theme is built around design tokens, so a single variable override (e.g., --lg-accent: #1e3a5f) cascades through the entire site.

Can I disable the marquee?

Yes. Customizer → Marquee → uncheck “Show Marquee”. Without Pro, the marquee is static. With Pro WOW Effects active, you can also independently toggle the animated scrolling under Customizer → Legal Pro → WOW Effects.

Can I use my own fonts?

Yes, three ways:

  • Easy — choose from the 15 curated pairings in Pro under Customize → Legal Pro → Font Pairings.
  • Medium — drop your custom Google Fonts URL into Custom CSS and override the --lg-serif, --lg-sans, and --lg-mono variables.
  • Advanced — register self-hosted custom fonts in a child theme and override the variables there.

Pro features

What’s included in WOW Effects?

Eight visual upgrades, each individually toggleable: page-load reveal sequence, hero watermark, hero ornament glyph, animated marquee, retainer wax seal, editorial letterhead footer, Counsel Direct Lines footer column, and a custom cursor. See your firm site’s Customizer → Legal Pro → WOW Effects for the full list.

Can I disable the custom cursor?

Yes. Customizer → Legal Pro → WOW Effects → uncheck “Custom cursor”. Some firms prefer the standard cursor for traditional brand reasons; others find the custom one too playful for legal practice. Both are valid choices.

Will the WOW Effects work on mobile?

Most do. The marquee, hero watermark, ornament, and reveal sequence work identically across devices. The custom cursor is automatically disabled on touch devices (it’s gated by @media (hover: hover) and (pointer: fine)). The retainer wax seal renders smaller on mobile.

Will the WOW Effects respect reduced motion?

Yes. Every animation honors prefers-reduced-motion: reduce. Animated transitions are removed; static elements (watermark, ornament, seal) still render but without entrance animations.

Compatibility

Legal is a classic theme with custom page templates, not a page-builder shell. Page builders generally work for individual pages but won’t take over the Firm Home template — that’s deliberately rendered server-side from Customizer values for performance and consistency.

If you want page-builder flexibility on a few pages while keeping the Legal aesthetic, create them as regular WordPress pages and use any builder you like. The theme styles will apply to your builder content automatically.

Yes. Customizer values are translatable using either plugin’s standard string-translation features. Pro’s demo importer creates content in English; translate it post-import using your translation plugin.

The theme styles WooCommerce pages cleanly using the editorial palette, but it’s not a commerce-first design. For firms that sell products (legal templates, courses, books), WooCommerce works; for full e-commerce stores, choose a commerce-focused theme.

What WordPress version is required?

Legal 3.0+ requires WordPress 5.8 or higher and PHP 7.4 or higher. We test against the latest stable WordPress release on every theme update.

Pricing

Check fasterthemes.com for current pricing. Lifetime updates and unlimited sites are always included regardless of price tier.

Do you offer refunds?

Yes — 30-day money-back guarantee. If Legal Pro doesn’t fit your needs in the first month, email support and we’ll process a full refund.

Do you offer agency licenses?

The standard license already covers unlimited sites you own. If you’re an agency building sites for clients, the standard license covers you for client work as long as the license is registered to your agency, not the client. For separate per-client billing, contact us — we’ll work something out.

Support

How do I get help?

Email support@fasterthemes.com. Active Pro license-holders get priority — replies within 8 business hours. Free-theme users get best-effort replies, usually within 2–3 business days.

What information should I include?

Site URL, theme version (visible under Appearance → Themes), Pro plugin version (under Plugins), a description of the issue, and any error messages or screenshots. Steps to reproduce help enormously.

Can you customize the theme for my firm?

Custom development isn’t currently part of our standard support, but we can recommend trusted developers familiar with the theme. Email support if you need this.
